The controversial rift between COSON chairman, Tony Okoroji and veteran singer Onyeka Onwenu attained a new peak today as Onwenu was mandated by a Lagos a High court to publicly apologize to the COSON boss and pay five million Naira in damages. A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja today Thursday, June 30, 2016 ordered Onyeka Onwenu to pay the sum of five million naira as damages for defamation of character to Chief Tony Okoroji, former President of PMAN and Chairman, Copyright Society of Nigeria (COSON). Delivering judgment in Suit No: ID/935/12 filed in 2012, Hon Justice I. O. Akinkugbe (Mrs.) also ordered Ms. Onwenu to tender an unreserved public apology to Chief Okoroji to be published in Vanguard Newspapers and www.vanguardngr.com , the website of Vanguard Newspapers. Highly revered and celebrated novelist, Captain Elechi Amadi has passed on at the age of 82. A family confirmed the news of his death at a hospital in Port Harcourt on Wednesday night. Elechi Amadi is the author of The Road to Ibadan, The Slave , Estrangement and the Woman of Calabar.  Captain Amadi attended Government college , Umuahia and went on to the University college, Ibadan where he studied Physics and Mathematics. He served in the 3rd Marine Commandos of the Nigerian Army and was the first Commissioner for Education in the old Rivers state and also served as Commissioner for Lands and Housing. He celebrated his 80th birthday in Port Harcourt, in 2014 releasing a souvenir edition of one of his plays, Isiburu to mark his 80th birthday. Amadi lived in his community, Aluu until his death. Prince Samuel Adetunji Adeosun, father to popular saxophonist, Yemi Sax, has passed away.on and the father to the acclaimed Nigeria’s King of Sax, “Yemi Sax” is dead. He died early Tuesday 28th June 2016 after a brief Illness. Pa Samuel Adeosun was one of the early gospel musicians in Nigeria and a good friend of the Late IK Dairo. He rose to popularity through the choir of Christ Apostolic Choir (CAC) Alagomeji, Yaba, and composed so many songs that have now widely been used for evangelism. He passed away at the age of 94.
