Drunken driver kills couple, injures grandchildren,

Akure—A couple were knocked down and killed by a drunken driver of a Toyota Camry car in Ode Irele, Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State. Three of their grand children and another old

woman were said to have sustained various degrees of injuries as the car ploughed into them while standing in front of their house located at Gbaleju area. Reports said the driver of the car, identified as Abisoye Wobo, who was allegedly drunk and returning from a burial ceremony, lost control of the car. Vanguard gathered that the deceased, before his death, was a notable chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the council. He was said to have returned from a political meeting and was relaxing with his wife and grandchildren in front of his house when the unfortunate incident occurred. The development irked youths from the town, who trooped to the house of the alleged killer and set same on fire, while Wobo fled. Policemen rushed to the scene to curtail the protest from escalating. Meanwhile, Vanguard was told that the bodies have been deposited at the General Hospital mortuary, while those injured are on admission at an undisclosed hospital. State Police Command image-maker, Mr. Wole Ogodo, could not be reached for comment. However, one of his aides said the matter had not been reported at the police headquarters by the Divisional Police Officer of Irele.
