Divest from oil, focus on Agriculture to avert food crisis – Cleric warns government
The federal, state and local governments have been urged to invest more in agriculture to ensure adequate food supply and security in the country.
Prophet Muyideen Kasali, founder, Hour of Mercy Prayer Mountain, who made the call said the age-long dependence on oil revenue may soon lead to hunger in Nigeria.
Speaking after his church’s prayer and fasting programme, Prophet Kasali said there is a need to diversify the economy of the country from oil to agriculture, which Nigeria has a comparative advantage of.
He said, “God asked me to tell Nigerians that they should wake up from slumber for them not to sleep in hunger.
” Our government and indeed all Nigerians should stop depending only on oil for survival, let us return to and embrace agriculture. The government must invest in agriculture for us to avoid a food crisis in the land”.
The cleric who claimed God told him a lot about things that will happen in Nigeria, said with the prayers as directed by God all of the crisis will be averted.
The man of God said prayers must be intensified against an unforeseen crisis that may affect the conduct of the 2023 general election, youth unrest and devastating plane crash.
“Hitches and errors in online banking with people not being able to access their money with many running into huge debts.
“Many thriving industries and manufacturing companies will close shops as a result of dwindling economy and high cost of raw materials. God is willing and ready to come to our rescue if we faithfully seek His face in prayers”.
Prophet Kasali who warned against politicising insecurity in the country said the situation will be aggravated if allowed to assume a dangerous dimension.
He, however, called on the government to declare a day of national prayers to arrest the situation.
