The Real Reason AMCON Took Control Of Silverbird Television + Ben Bruce’s Reaction
The Assets Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) early this morning took possession of the Silverbird Galleria owned by Senator Ben Murray Bruce due to non-payment of debts owed by the Senator’s companies.
AMCON earlier secured an order from a Federal High Court in Lagos, to take over companies owned by businessman after he defaulted in the repayment of N11billion loan to banks.
They will now take over Silverbird Cinemas and other companies by Thursday morning over the alleged loan default.
The companies affected by the takeover are Silverbird Galleria Limited, Silverbird Promotions Limited, and Silverbird Showtime Limited.
AMCON had, by notice of appointment dated April 18 appointed Muiz Banire as Receiver/Manager over the sprawling assets of the three companies located at 133 Ahmadu Bello Way, Victoria Island, Lagos, Plot No 1161 (Silverbird Galleria); Central Area Cadastral Zone AOO, Abuja; and Abonnema Wharf Road and Abali Park in Port Harcourt City of Rivers State.
Speaking on what had transpired, Chairman of the Silverbird Group and Senator representing Bayelsa East senatorial district, Mr Ben Murray-Bruce first explained that he could not react to news of the AMCON take over on time because he was on an international flight.
He stated that the situation was being taken care of and normal activities would resume at the cinemas soon enough.
Murray-Bruce added that the Silverbird Group had been in business for over 36 years and it was normal for it to face challenges.
“Tough times don’t last. We, as tough people, outlast them,” Murray-Bruce said.
